Blaine Lake took shape in 1911, on the shore of a lake said to be named for a surveyor called Blaine, who drowned there before the community was established. The railway followed soon after: the line between Prince Albert and North Battleford had been built in 1910, and in 1912 a CN station went up to serve the new community. It stayed in service until 1973.
